I'm only 49 years old. I'm still in the middle of this whole thing. I don't feel like it's finished at all. I'm still planning to write better songs. -Paul McCartney
The Defunct Collection Assorted samples and tunes collected from past band projects. The names of the particpants have been omited &/or obfuscated to protect the innocent (or guilty). You might find out by contacting me though.
DAY4 (Sometime in 2003 to Feb 2004) R&B, Rock, Blues, Beach and a little funk/jazz. Lineup consisted of Chick singer, Guitar, Hammond B3, Bass and Drums. This project was fun, but too short lived. We never got any Hi-Fi gig recordings, but this is a couple of tunes from a cassette deck rolling during practice. (also not very Hi-Fi) Lonely Teardrops - Soul. ~3.2MB Wholelotta Love - Extended adaptation of the Led Zepplin song. ~about 8MB 8counts for Rita - A Jimmy Smith tune featuring (of course) the B3 organ player. ~3.1MB
The Late Shift (late 1900's to early 21st century) Classic Rock and Blues, usually performed with a "take no prisoners" attitude. This band had a good run and some fun and funny gigs. Lineup consisted of (maie) Chick Singer, Guitar, Keys, Bass and Drums. During the first iteration of the band, the lead singer also played rhythm guitar. The lead singer in "version two" of the band played harmonica. Before You Accuse Me - Blues song taken from a cassette recording of a party gig. (Late Shift V1) ~ 7.6MB The three tunes below were taken from the Late Shift (V2) quick and dirty demo. This demo was recorded in one evening in a studio. We did about 6 tunes in total. All tunes were recorded "live", first takes with no multi-tracking.
Wicked Game - No it's not a Cadillac commercial. ~5.6MB Oye Como Va - Classic Tito Puente tune popularized by Santana ~5.7MB
Dr. Brown's Code Blue Revue (Late 80s to Mid 90s) R&B, Rock, Blues, and a little funk/jazz. Lineup consisted of Chick singer, Guitar, Keyboards, Saxophone, Bass and Drums. This project was fun & fruitful. We had a kickin' band and a good run. The MP3 is a collection of song snippets from a demo tape culled from a gig cassette. Dr. Brown Demo Various tune snippets ~about 8.5MB (run time about 7 minutes)
Friends (1986) A country music project that lasted just long enough (a day or two) to record a 45 single (remember those?). The A side "Elouise" was dedicated to Elouise - A morning D.J. for WTQR which was the #1 country station in the market at the time. The B side "Take Me Back" demonstrated that a Mutron Bi-Phase (the worlds largest phase shifter) could do an "okay" simulation of a Leslie speaker for guitar. (Sweet) Elouise - 3.8 MB Side A of the single Take me back - 5.5 MB The B side
The Jomo Band (1974-75) A rock band made up of fellow students at the University of Maryland (Munich campus). The University was kind enough to give us a practice room that was underground and next door to The "Kellar" (German word literally meaning "Cellar" but also know to the students as "The Killer") which was where most of the student body gathered for beer. The Kellar also was home to most of our gigs. Very convenient. Did I mention that they had plenty of (German) beer? Some Jomo (reel to reel) tapes are in the archives and might find their way here one day. Some Jomo band pix We may not have been pretty, but we had hair. |
